It took less than two months after we emigrated to Croatia until we had to experience the first wildfire up close. Caused by an open flame, the fire spread with horrendous speed due to strong winds. What seemed like a small fire in the morning had turned into an inferno by evening. Five firefighting planes and more than 300 brave firefighters were involved in extinguishing the flames. It was not until the following evening that it was under control. Numerous olive groves, cars and houses succumbed to the fire. It was a horrible and traumatic experience for our family, which led us to engage intensively with the situation of the fire brigades in Croatia. 

We could not believe the circumstances under which these brave men and women so often risk their lives. The wages are not enough to live from – most of them have additional jobs to support their families. The fire engines and technical equipment are outdated and in disastrous state. It appeared to us that the Croatians’ appreciation of their heroes alone was enough to make them volunteer for the fire brigade.

How are the firefighters supposed to be able and willing to protect our belongings from natural disasters if we ourselves do not do our part? Knowing all this, we had to get involved.

We at Cro Housekeepers have made it our duty to support the fire brigade on a regular basis. Therefore, we will donate a monthly amount of €5.00 from every basic package that you conclude with us to the fire brigade in Vodice. We are happy to be able to make our contribution and express our appreciation for these people and their incredible bravery – together with you, our customers.
